TAJIKISTAN/UZBEKISTAN: This week, Uzbek authorities closed the Navruzobod border crossing in order to prevent the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). Navruzobod links Tashkent and the Tajik city of Khujand and is Uzbekistan’s main western border crossing. The Uzbek government has also closed border crossings to Kyrgyzstan. There have been no registered cases of SARS in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
