Jargon of the day: Delta

Jargon: Delta
Translation: Change. People in the government and military seem to like this word a lot. I have no idea why they use it, since it seems to be a direct synonym for “change.” Maybe using it makes them feel like insiders?

It’s a mathematical term; IIRC the greek letter Delta is used to represent change or the rate of change.
Many years since math for me.

I knew the term from math myself, but I still don’t know why people persist in using it when they could just say “change.” Especially because it’s not used to mean rate of change in this context, just change.
