From my DevelopmentEx security report:

KYRGYZSTAN: On Monday, 18 Kyrgyz women launched a hunger strike to demand a meeting with President Askar Akayev in the Bishkek apartment of opposition parliamentary deputy Azimbek Beknazarov. The strikers want to discuss the punishment of those responsible for the March 2002 shootings of demonstrators in the Aksy District in southern Kyrgyzstan. Last week, police detained the women when they tried to obtain a meeting with Akayev.

This has been an ongoing issue in Kyrgyzstan. The shooting caught public attention, and people have continued to protest about it for over a year.
